Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Following an assessment in March 2026, I was identified as displaying traits consistent with autism and received a formal diagnosis.
Type 2 Diabetes
In early November 2019, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. This was not entirely unexpected, as both of my parents also lived with the condition.
Type 2 diabetes affects how the body regulates blood sugar (glucose), either through reduced insulin production or the body’s resistance to insulin. Managing it effectively requires consistency, awareness, and lifestyle balance.
Since my diagnosis, I have taken an active role in managing my condition. This includes:
Monitoring & Management
- Regular blood glucose monitoring using home testing equipment
- Routine check-ups with healthcare professionals
Medication & Support
- Use of prescribed medication to help control blood sugar levels (tailored to my needs and reviewed regularly)
Lifestyle Adjustments
- Making more informed dietary choices, particularly around sugar and carbohydrate intake
- Maintaining a balanced and sustainable eating routine
- Incorporating regular physical activity where possible
- Building consistent daily habits to support overall stability
These changes have helped me maintain better control over my condition and integrate management into everyday life.
STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction)
In September 2026, I was admitted to Royal Papworth Hospital following a GP appointment, after describing symptoms of a suspected heart attack.
I was diagnosed with a ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), a serious condition caused by a complete blockage of one of the heart’s major arteries. Rapid diagnosis and treatment were critical in managing the situation.
Treatment & Recovery
- Emergency medical care to restore blood flow
- Ongoing monitoring and follow-up care
Medication & Ongoing Care
- Prescribed cardiac medications (such as those to support heart function, manage cholesterol, or reduce clot risk, depending on clinical advice)
- Regular medical reviews to monitor heart health
Lifestyle Changes
- Greater focus on heart-healthy eating
- Increasing awareness of physical activity and pacing
- Managing stress levels more consciously
- Paying closer attention to early warning signs and overall wellbeing
Reflection & Outlook
Living with both diabetes and experiencing a cardiac event has reinforced the importance of listening to my body and acting early when something doesn’t feel right.
These experiences have encouraged me to:
- Be more proactive about my health
- Stay informed and engaged with medical advice
- Build sustainable habits rather than short-term fixes
While these conditions are part of my life, they do not define it. Instead, they have strengthened my resilience, awareness, and determination to maintain a good quality of life.
Moving Forward
I continue to take a balanced and practical approach to my health—working closely with healthcare professionals, using the tools and treatments available to me, and making choices that support long-term wellbeing.
