Millennium Volunteers Programme
Operated locally by Wycombe Youth Action
In 2006, I completed significant volunteering milestones through the Millennium Volunteers programme, achieving:
- 100 hours of volunteering (May 2006)
- 200 hours of volunteering (September 2006)
These hours were earned through my involvement in a temporary radio broadcast operating under a Restricted Service Licence (RSL), as part of the station Blink FM.

As part of this project, I contributed to the planning and delivery of a short-term community radio station. This provided hands-on experience in a live broadcasting environment and required strong teamwork and organisation.
My involvement included:
- Supporting the setup and operation of the temporary radio station
- Assisting with programme planning and content preparation
- Contributing to the delivery of live and pre-recorded broadcasts
- Working collaboratively with other volunteers and team members
- Gaining insight into broadcasting regulations and RSL operations
- Skills & Experience Gained
Through this volunteering experience, I developed:
- Communication and teamwork skills in a live environment
- Confidence working in a structured but fast-paced setting
- An understanding of radio production and broadcasting processes
- The ability to contribute consistently toward long-term goals
Reflection
Completing 200 hours of volunteering within a relatively short period demonstrated my commitment, reliability, and willingness to contribute to a team effort.
This experience also reinforced my interest in media and broadcasting, while helping me build confidence and practical skills that I continue to use today.
